No room in the Inn,there is a large CP rail crew staying here in Merritt and a large bus pulled up to a local motel and let off a tired looking and soiled work crew on Thursday.
There is no Rail here in Merritt it was taken out decades ago when truck traffic started utilizing the new divided highway , the Coquihalla. After stopping running trains for 2 years the company removed the tracks. A local Building supply on Voght street was one of the first to expand over the right away putting in a large warehouse to solidify the removal. The local Rotary Club made a walking trail and spruced up a bridge at the junction of the Nicola and Coldwater rivers coming into Merritt on Highway 8 from the Fraser canyon.
According to a source the reason the crews are here is because they usually stay in motels in Cache Creek, close to the work, but no rooms were available to suit them. The reason being there is a film production going on at Cache Creek and they are taking the available rooms.
The regional district has a film commission that accommodates productions : http://thompsonnicolamoviemap.com/  the movie map shows a number of productions made in the Area of Cache Creek Ashcroft BC. The dry desert like climate is highlighted on the TNRD commissions web site.
