Colour and Contour Show to Open at Court House Art Gallery in September

Merritt, British Columbia – August , 2013 – The Colour and Contour Show launches at the Courthouse Gallery, located at 1840 Nicola Avenue on September 6.   The show features recent paintings by Libby Dybikowski, along with equine sculptural ceramics by John Yellowlees, and functional art pottery, by Carole Jackson.

Libby Dybikowski’s subjects are drawn from the Vancouver and Nicola Valley regions, and on her lifetime of travels, studies and ideas.  Vibrant images of horses, people, landscapes, flowers and abstracts feature clearly delineated spaces and strong outlines.   Colorful, powerful, natural images with the impressions and interpretations of the artist will bring you into her world of imagination.

John Yellowlees’ horse-inspired ceramic sculptures build on his successful show of soda-fired vessels last November.  His work spoke to gallery visitors, and many of his pieces are now gracing homes in the Nicola Valley and beyond.  For the Colour and Contour Show, Yellowlees’ theme, complementing Dybikowski’s paintings, is the spirit of horses.  Intense work over the summer has resulted several superb pieces to be seen at the show.

First-time exhibitor Carole Jackson’s finely composed pottery pieces deserve the wider audience that the Colour and Contour Show will provide.  Jackson, a lifetime resident of the Nicola Valley, creates beautifully shaped pottery in exquisite colours, balanced, rounded and wonderful to the touch as well as to the eye.   For this show, she has been working in clay and porcelain, and  constructing in small works and larger vases.

The public is invited to attend the reception for the show and sale on Friday, September 6 from 4 to 6pm.  Refreshments will be served.  The show continues through Saturday October 5.  As always, admission is FREE to view the gallery shows.

The Courthouse Art Gallery is located  at 1840 Nicola Avenue in Merritt, BC.  It is open Thursdays, from 4 to 8pm, Fridays from noon to 6pm and Saturdays from noon to 6pm.
