Nicola Valley Film Society showing: Departures:

On February 8th 2010, I have it on good authority that the local film society of which I am a member showed this internationally acclaimed film at the local civic center. I did not attend , however the film has been out since 2009. Here are some common knowledge facts about it  and a context for the local viewing: The community of merritt has had three significant nurseing homes contructed  recentlyand a half million dollar renovation of a fufneral parlor . Giving a  goulish context for the viewing of departures . The film is about you guess it about last business for this mortal life.

Site unseen ; film rates two stars.

2010 Olympics Vancouver Canada:

The last day of February saw the closing ceremonies of the games hosted by Vancouver. At Whistler  British Columbia all venues closed after the Canadian Mens Hockey team won the gold medal 7 some minutes into sudden death overtime. A picture spread in the provincial newspapers showed a great closing ceremony so good that  A major US tV net work cut the broadcast short to premiere a new program.

The games soluminized by an unfortunate death of a Georgian luge competitor that left  the track and connected his head with a steel pole  causing near immediate death. A Source  here says that they later put hay bales around the posts.

The Medal count at the end of the games : United States  37, Germany 30, and Canada 26; those three finishers  did that with 214, 151, and 205 athletes respectively. Of the 82 countries that sent people 12 sent only one. However the out of country visa card count at the games for one company Visa is one million transactions from  Feb 14 -26. ;so we think they didnt come alone.

For us in Merritt no local names made it to the podiums the best we had here was  the professed parents of the Speed Skating Mens gold medal winner Mark someone, over heard to be on their way to Banff in a local coffee shop. The couple from Holland also asked were a bank was.Thats pretty heady Olympic stuff for a milling town.

The 2010 Olympic games rates of course: ***** Exellent.

 Prediction Prose:

2010: US President says that Canada will play a big roll in economic jobs recovery in the US.

2011: Canadian diplomatic corp stretched to capacity;

2012: World peace declared lasts 38 days.
